Our current project, the Capt. Childs House built in 1833, is a grand example of the Greek revival style, rising a full 2½ stories to a gable roof. The house is trimmed by a wide frieze and by projecting lintels over the windows. We will be gutting approximately 75% of the existing home, removing the two ells in the rear and replacing them with a two car garage, laundry room & bathroom on one side and a music/office room on the other side. The existing kitchen will become a playroom, moving the new kitchen to the adjoining room. The rear stairway has been removed to make way for a larger room upstairs which will be the master bath. Parts of the house have been raised & leveled while some have not. A two story combination screen porch/deck has been added to the west side of the home. All plumbing, heat & electrical systems will be replaced.
The main goal of this restoration is that the integrity of this home stays intact and that the work being done shows very little change to the eye while making it more efficient, comfortable and usable for the new family.
